About me

A little about me:

I am a specialist teenage counsellor, holding a level 6 diploma in teenage counselling. Many therapists are either child or adult trained, but for me, my focus is working with teenagers and hence I made the decision to train specifically in this area.
I use an integrative approach to work with those aged 11-25 years old, working with client material to help them process traumatic experiences and challenges. I am trained with using the Arts in therapy and find this to be an effective tool for working with young people who sometimes find that they do not have the language to encompass their feelings. So often, words just don’t feel ‘big enough’ and being able to ‘show’ how you feel can be an extremely powerful tool.

Having worked in secondary education for over 10 years, I have a good understanding of the challenges young people face. It was this that led me to train as a counsellor, as I wanted to be part of the support mechanism; providing a safe and private environment for difficulties and troubles to be worked through, understood, and explored. Too often I have come across young people and parents who are left stranded and uncertain where to go for their next steps.

What to expect in your first session:

Your first session is all about relations. The aim of this session is for us to get to know each other a little, so you can decide if you feel you will be able to work alongside me to process your difficulties. I understand that we are all different and for your therapeutic journey to begin, you need to feel connected to your therapist.

Areas of experience include; anxiety; self harm; sexual assault; exam stress; parental separation; anger; low self-esteem; and bereavement.

I am able to offer weekly sessions or bi-weekly sessions. I have day and evening slots currently available.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
