About me

Sometimes things in life get really difficult to manage, you might feel overwhelmed when this happens, you may feel completely alone with your difficulties and want to pull the covers up around you and press pause on life till you feel more connected with what's going on.

You have made the first step by deciding you no longer want to feel stuck where you are and are looking for some therapeutic support.

I'm Katie, I'm a qualified Accredited one to one person-centred therapist, I'm here to listen and offer a safe space for you to explore and work out which road you want to take. Walking alongside you as you take the steps through your journey at your own pace. Feeling heard and understood is half the challenge and having someone walking alongside you as you travel down a difficult path can give us courage and help us feel more able to manage any forks, turns or threats on the road ahead.

If any of this feels relevant to you or you think you would like to have a chat with me, get in touch. Send me an email and I'll get back in touch within 24 hours to arrange an initial free 15-minute call (if you don't see it in 24 hours check your junk box for a response).

Training, qualifications & experience

I have 8 years of experience working with and supporting people who have challenges with their mental health both through the private sector and within the NHS. I have also offered one to one counselling in a number of settings both within the educational sector, within a voluntary organisation and privately.  Everyone's experience is different and until I hear your story, I wouldn't presume to know what you're going through but I do have a good understanding of how difficult things get.

I do not currently have the training to offer couples counselling.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
