About me

My Approach

I am an integrative therapist, which means I use a range of therapeutic techniques from humanistic, psychoanalytic and existential traditions. My work focuses on building a strong therapeutic relationship that builds sufficient trust and understanding to discover the interventions most helpful for you. This might involve exploration of the relationship between your struggles today and those in your past. This can help clients to gain insight, compassion and support to help overcome unhelpful patterns developed over time.

Areas of speciality

I work with adults, couples, young adults and the elderly facing anxiety and depression, GAD, ADHD and Autism, family and relationship problems, divorce, domestic abuse, culture and religion, addiction, eating disorders, obesity, bereavement, sexual abuse, sexuality, disability, trauma, personality disorders, chronic illness, forensic matters and much more.

What to expect

I work mostly in the present moment, encouraging clients to attune to their feelings about themselves, relationships and life circumstances. This is facilitated by establishment of an open and honest therapeutic space, promoting capacity to go deeper into your experiences. The intention is to process and repair painful, often difficult realities. Whilst uncovering more fulfilling ways of living and alleviating a sense of aloneness in facing your problems. I might also work in an embodied way with the unconscious mind and body, for example using dreams or attuning to bodily responses.

First Steps

Taking the step into therapy is a significant decision. It is crucial that you find the right therapist. My aim is to make that initial first step as comfortable and supportive as possible. I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation when we can discuss your specific circumstances and goals and to see if we are well suited to work together. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have about your treatment.

Your first session

If you decide to work with me, we will agree on a weekly time slot and date when we will meet for your first session. During our first meeting we will carry out an informal assessment when we will discuss in detail the issues at hand. Together we will agree upon a treatment plan or approach that will best support your journey towards better mental health.

Practical information

I am currently working primarily face-to-face, providing weekly (50 minute) sessions a short distance from High Barnet underground station. I offer remote long-term (or shorter-term) work, weekly online using Zoom or by telephone, depending on your circumstances. I am also able to offer blended long-term work which involves a negotiated mix of face-to-face and online or telephone, according to your specific needs, subject to my availability.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a BACP registered therapist with years of experience working with depression, anxiety, Autism and ADHD, relationship or family problems, divorce, work-related stress, domestic abuse, addiction, sexual trauma, eating disorders, infertility, pregnancy, chronic illness, disability, personality disorders, bereavement, cultural and racial trauma and many other issues.

I have experience working with people long-term for more than a year, as well as short-term, with interventions of 8-12 weeks.

I have worked in the NHS, within NHS talking therapies and for local charities.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

My background is in public law and regulation, mediating and adjudicating cases against institutions with the aim of upholding fairness. I worked as a therapeutic yoga teacher internationally for over 10 years. I specialised in unique groups including special needs children, cancer suffers, those suffering mental illness and more. My transition over to psychotherapy has integrated some of my experience in these areas. The result has been to cultivate a robust, diverse skill set for holding the therapeutic space. Being supportive, sparking curiosity and depth, whilst simultaneously providing a sense of protection and empowerment.
