About me

My name is Katie and I am a Clinical Psychologist.

Life can be complicated and everyone will have times where they can feel stuck with a problem, or perhaps stuck in a cycle where their old coping strategies are no longer helping.  Therapy is space to explore these cycles and to gain a better understanding and insight into how life experiences and relationships have effected how they see the world, themselves and others.  Having a good understanding provides a solid base to move forward from.  The next phase is then identifying what skills you need to develop in order to reach your goals and learn more helpful sustainable strategies for managing strong emotions.

In sessions I offer confidential, person centred psychotherapy to adults with a range of problems.  I work in a trauma informed way,  to help create a space of safety to think about issues, at your own pace and with a clear idea of what you would hope to change as a result of coming to sessions.

The psychological models which we would use together are:

  • Compassion focussed therapy (CFT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  •  Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
  •  Mindfulness

EMDR is a specialist type of therapy which can be used in lots of ways, especially traumatic events ranging from single events (e.g. car accidents) to multiple events (e.g abusive relationships).

The types of problems I can help you with include:

  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Complex trauma and problems as a result of the trauma (e.g. traumatic relationships)
  • Complex PTSD
  • Anxiety
  • Depression and low mood
  •  Loss and grief
  • Weight problems
  • Chronic pain
  • Managing difficult emotions

As a Clinical Psychologist I  adhere to the BPS and HCPC code of ethics and practice.

Please feel free to contact me with any queries.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.  To train as a clinical psychologist in the UK involves an undergraduate in psychology (or equivalent) and then the completition of the doctorate. Which is a typically 3 years of formal teaching, reseach and clinical placements within the NHS where you are trained to use evidence based psychological therapies with a variety of psychological difficulties.

I have worked in the NHS since 2005 in a range of services inlcuding Adult Psychological Therapies (specialising in Compassiona Focussed Therapy and EMDR), Chronic Pain Services and Specialist Weight Mangagement Services (BMI of 35+).

I have also completed EMDR training a therapy designed for working with people who have experienced trauma (PTSD/Complex Trauma).

I have a specialism in Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT).
