About me

Hello, I’m Kate Upshall, a UKCP Accredited Gestalt Psychotherapeutic Counsellor based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. I am in the process of completing further accreditation as a Gestalt Psychotherapist.

I am passionate about the benefits of Gestalt therapy, and its potential to support us all to live an authentic, satisfying life. I have been practising therapy since August 2016 and opened my private practice in January 2018.

I have a background in mental health and wellbeing roles within the voluntary sector, including a national homelessness charity, and a charity for adults with acquired brain injury. I am also a qualified and experienced Art and Design teacher. If you would like to use art materials in your sessions I would enjoy incorporating them. Gestalt is a flexible and creative therapy, and together we can find methods and materials that work for you.

Gestalt is a relational, embodied psychotherapy, which offers the possibility of growth and change through an accepting, respectful and supportive relationship with your therapist. You may be dealing with challenges such as anxiety or depression, the impact of past experiences or trauma, difficulties in relationships, a period of transition or change in your life, sense of self or identity, grief or loss. Or perhaps you’re interested in finding a new direction or meaning in your life. Together we will develop greater awareness and understanding of your situation and yourself and what the next steps might be for you.

I’m trained to work with individuals and couples over the age of 18.

I hold a Certificate in Relational Supervision, and am currently working towards the Diploma in Relational Supervision.
