About me

My name is Katarzyna, but I’m also known as Kat. I am a relational counsellor qualified to work with adult individuals, children, and young people. In my work, I use an integrative approach drawing from different counselling schools. This includes psychodynamic, person-centred, transactional analysis, and cognitive behavioural therapy so that I can tailor your sessions to what works best for you.

Attachment theory plays a crucial role in my approach. Attachment styles determine the way people perceive themselves and the world and affect their relationships with others. We are the way we are because of our past. The accumulation of all the experiences we have had in life with our parents, carers, and significant others can have a significant effect. Think of all the messages you have heard from other people that you have internalised. Increasing self-awareness in my clients plays an important role and it is often a first step to change.

The counselling space I am offering is safe, empathetic, confidential, and non-judgmental. This is a time for you to be fully yourself. You are always in control in terms of what you would like to share with me. Of course, the more I know, the more accurate a picture I have and the better help I can provide. Counselling might be difficult at times. I might ask you questions that may be challenging, but it is up to you to decide if you feel safe enough to answer them. Overall, therapy can be a time that facilitates reflection and change.

I am originally from Poland. I have lived in Scotland since 2005. I am experienced in mentoring and working with disadvantaged communities and people with mental health issues both in Poland and in the UK. I have also worked with refugees and asylum seekers, talking to people from all over the world. I conduct sessions in English and Polish. My clients come from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and religions. This enables me to facilitate culturally sensitive therapy. I have worked with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, and attachment issues. I have conducted over 1600 in-house sessions with adults, children, and young people, and over 200 sessions within primary and secondary schools across Glasgow and its surrounding areas.

I am registered as a Counsellor Member (CMCOSCA) with COSCA, which is a professional body for counselling and psychotherapy in Scotland. I adhere to the COSCA Code of Ethics. I also hold a Graduate Membership (GMBPsS) with the British Psychological Society.
