About me

Hello, my name is Kat and I am an anxiety and trauma focused therapist. I support clients who have experienced any kind of anxiety such as generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, PTSD, low self-esteem, depression and/or any kind of trauma or abuse, such as physical, sexual, psychological, neglect, etc. I work from a gendered perspective with women and girls and those who identify as female only from the age of 14 and above. I work in an integrative way with clients using a phased approach to recovery.

Trauma can leave us with all kinds of unwanted feelings such as low self-esteem, low self-confidence, flashbacks, nightmares, being easily startled or frightened, difficulty concentrating, irritability, feelings of guilt and shame etc. Life doesn’t have to stay like that. Discussing anxiety and/or trauma and the feelings it has left you with will be difficult but I will offer you the space to talk and be truly heard about matters that are causing you distress. I work collaboratively with clients, meaning we explore your thoughts and feelings together from a non-judgemental perspective at a pace that feels comfortable for you. I believe you are the expert on you and I am there to support you reach the change, personal insight, self-awareness and growth you are looking for.

As an integrative relational therapist, I will ensure our sessions will be personalised to meet your specific needs and I will draw upon a range of therapeutic approaches and techniques to support you such as CBT, existentialism and other humanistic approaches. I believe empowerment is the key to moving on after trauma and therefore, it is empowerment that I put at the forefront of my work with clients.

Before I became a therapist, I worked in mental health hospitals and gained extensive experience working with adolescents and adults diagnosed with an eating disorder. I am passionate about this area of work and continue to work with clients who are experiencing eating disorders. Clients seeking therapeutic support for this should, however, be under the care of their GP or other medical professional alongside their therapy, due to the physical risks connected with having an eating disorder.

If you are seeking therapy for something other than a specific anxiety issue or trauma, I would be glad to meet with you so you can determine if my way of working will be suitable for your needs. I believe empowerment is the key to moving on after trauma and therefore, it is empowerment that I put at the forefront of my work with clients.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
