About me

Thank you for dropping by.  Seeking help for yourself or another can be a big step to take, and you will want it to feel right. I warmly invite you to take a look at my website, and feel free to connect with me for an informal chat to see how we might work together.

I am trained and experienced to offer adults and young people one-to-one long or short term Psychotherapy in a way which works best for you. This can be Face-to-Face in a comfortable room, walking together in nature; or online.

I offer a safe space for you to be truly heard without judgement and with the intention of you finding different perspectives or ways in looking at your situation.

Training, qualifications & experience

My practice is informed by both a rich life experience, and my Psychotherapy training in Existential Humanistic theory and principles, and is interested in what's happened to us, how we make meaning of it, how we connect and relate, both in the room and beyond. I acknowledge the unique situation you are in, and how it plays an key part on your journey in addition to how you are and see the world. I see value in this relational interplay, much like the sails on a boat; navigating all the weather around it, and I am alongside you on that journey of gently unpacking it all, in your own time.

I completed my Post Grad. training program in Psychotherapeutic Counselling at the University of Brighton to work with adults, followed by post qualified  specialist training to safely and effectively work with Children & Teens in addition to adults.  I work in Private Practice, and with experience in Charities and organisations (ACC Counselling, YMCA, Broadway) across Sussex, working with clients of diverse needs, backgrounds.

Following my first degree in Psychology in 2000,  I went on to teach young people contributing to an extensive background of working with younger minds as well as adults. I have bridged this rich experience of child-centred learning into Psychotherapy and specialise in counselling young people working especially with issues relating to high anxiety and finding ways to feel into what is happening, self-soothe and reassure the nervous system. I am enhanced DBS checked to work with this age group as well as vulnerable Adults. I also work at BHASVIC college  Brighton to Counsel Teens locally.

I find the somatics of what happens  (body-feeling-sense) can really help inform the work and having a background in teaching and practicing Yoga and Meditation over the last 25 years a way of connecting with what is happening on levels we might not always so readily acknowledge. This can integrate really well with what arises in session as you explore what is happening for you.  Awareness of what is deeply sensed can really help inform the work, and I've seen clients tap into a deeper knowing of what they actually need, although not always what has been expected.

More recently, I have trained to work as Walk and Talk Ecotherapist, whereby we walk side-by-side out in nature, working with whatever arises. This adds a powerful dimension to the work, in that you have not only myself but also the natural world working alongside your process, whilst moving your body and breathing in the restorative energy of what's around you on a therapeutic walk.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
