About me

It isn’t always easy to talk about things that might be troubling you and sometimes it helps to talk to someone outside of your friendship and family circle where you can talk in an understanding and accepting space about things, at the pace and depth you want to. I am a fully qualified, warm and friendly person centred therapist, offering a safe space for you to talk in confidence about difficult issues that you feel are preventing you from living the life you want to lead.

I work with clients (both on an individual basis or as couples counselling) with a range of issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, low self esteem and have a particular interest in supporting people with bereavement and loss, recognising, from both my therapeutic work with clients and my own personal experience, the continuing bond we have with people after they have died and how important it is to create the space to talk about them. Loss isn’t just about bereavement, it underpins most difficult issues people are experiencing whether it is loss of work, health, identity, relationship or key life transition points. For me loss isn’t necessarily about ‘recovery’ it is about adaptation and managing change and I can support you to make the adaptations you need to.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy. I also have a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and an MSc in Psychology (By Research) , along with a Diploma in Social Work. I have worked in mental health and social care in a range of different settings and roles for over 25 years and throughout this career one of my firm, consistent beliefs is that people are their own best experts. By providing the right empathic and non judgemental therapeutic environment, people can start to move forwards in the way and at the pace they would like, recognising and building on their own innate strengths. As a therapist I can provide that environment and support your growth.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Having a good and trusting connection with your therapist is the most important factor in building an effective therapeutic relationship. Consequently, I offer a free 30 minute online or telephone consultation so you can see if you think we would be a good fit and that you feel comfortable and confident in working with me.

In this session we can discuss why you are seeking therapy and what you would like to get from it. I can tell you a bit more about my approach and what I can offer and we can explore together whether the way I work is likely to be helpful for you

There is absolutely no obligation, it is so important you find someone that is right for you and will help you to move forward in the way you want, and if you don’t feel that person is me, that is absolutely fine.
