About me

I know how difficult it can be to seek help, I therefore aim to provide a secure and non-judgmental space in which you can feel safe to explore the issues that concern you.  My preferred work way of working is based on psychodynamic approach which emphasises a belief that exploring our unconscious mind and past experiences can help us to understand how we think, feel and act in the present.

Since my early twenties, I have been fascinated by the unique ways we each experience both the world and our relationships. Initially, this fascination led me to the study of literature and history at Lancaster University and the University of Illinois in America. After successfully completing my degree I went on to complete a post-graduate degree at Nottingham. Through my study of literature and history, I developed a deeper understanding of the complex ways people respond psychologically to the circumstances of their own lives.

After completing my studies at university, I taught literature and history to mature students for 16 years. I have since trained first as a counsellor then as a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist on the D58 in Manchester.  This approach emphasises the belief that we are all affected in the present by our past experiences and these past experiences can shape our expectations of both ourselves and others.

As a therapist, I believe it is essential to provide a supportive and safe environment where the client can explore, in depth, the issues that are important to them. In my work as a counsellor, I have found it very rewarding to work alongside clients as they explore their own experiences and discover a more authentic self.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
