About me

You may feel that sometimes life doesn't seem right. Perhaps you're feeling that life is being endured, rather than lived and enjoyed, and you recognise something has to change. It's helpful to see who and where you are, what got you here, and consider where and what you'd like to be.

Facing and exploring how you feel is fundamental to improving your well being, and I'm happy to be part of your journey.

Counselling is incredibly useful for discussing and exploring many aspects of your life, and the memories, feelings and thoughts that need the attention you may not otherwise give them. Many people now recognise the benefits of Counselling and Therapy in much the same way they would view other health professionals. By working with me you will be able to examine confront and express things that may be affecting you, whether you can identify them now or not. Our work is led by your commitment and exploration, and I provide the time and space for you to connect to the different aspects of yourself, helping you to recognise who you are, and help motivate the re-orientation of your journey

I've worked with many clients, discussing and helping with many different issues. I am available to work with you to help you orientate yourself, and navigate your emotional health and landscape.  I believe in creating a place that is safe and comfortable to be in in, but also contains the necessary challenge and stimulation for exploration and growth.

Please let me know if you are interested in what can be rewarding self-work. I will be happy to arrange an initial short call to get an overview of whether we are a good fit for your situation, and if we are both happy, I'd like to invite you to a free hour's consultation to flesh out what we have discussed. At this point, if we are both happy to work together, we can arrange a Therapeutic Agreement and begin our work.

Please email or phone me with any queries with the details provided

Training, qualifications & experience

I'm happy that mental health is fast losing traditional taboos and stigma, and that mental health for all, men, women and children is being recognised as something needing a focus. These look like developments that we should be encouraged by

My training moved from a Bsc in Psychology to a foundation diploma, and then to a Diploma  in Psychodynamic Counselling, enabling membership of the BACP. I've supplemented this with core training in CBT, and Continual Professional Development and Supervision. I am currently engaged in further study in Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counselling, and it feels exhilarating to continue to refresh and expand my abilities to help my clients.  I think it's important to continuously expand  what you know and what you can do to increase who and how you can help. I like to bring different ideas, concepts and techniques to our work to support you in your journey.

I prefer to offer a blended approach, drawing on different styles and disciplines to work with you as an individual - I don't believe there's a "one size fits all" protocol for the personal work and journey that improving mental health requires. What's most important is the commitment and curiosity to engage that you bring to our Therapeutic Relationship.

I provide a confidential, safe and secure place to work and express, but sometimes our work may present a challenge for you, and my job is to strengthen and equip you to guide and guard you in our work. Dramatic as this sounds, my own counselling proved to me how testing and demanding self reflection and exploration can be, and I respect anyone stepping up to the challenge.

I've worked with many clients in training, volunteer placement, and private practise, with many different, and sadly all too common conditions. Stress, anxiety, depression, weight issues, self doubt, self worth and so on. I've realised that no one person is without a burden, and that everyone is unique.

Please feel free to contact me to get an idea of how we can work together, and I will be happy to help you discover, orientate and navigate a path that you feel comfortable and confident with.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
