About me

Thank you for taking time to find out more about me. This is not a throw away line; I believe that feeling a connection to your therapist is the most important element of therapy so it is really important that you feel you can get to know me and that you believe you can share enough about yourself so that I can get to know you.

I am an adult psychotherapist and counsellor working in private practice in North Berwick and online. I also work at PF Counselling in Edinburgh.  I am no stranger to the immense pressure that balancing all the demands of life can place on us. I have worked in therapeutic one to one relationships with clients for over twenty years, first as an acupuncturist and latterly, as a counsellor and psychotherapist.

It can be hard at times to cope with everything life throws at us. Counselling is no magic wand and it can take time and feel difficult sometimes, but I know, because I have experienced through my work as a counsellor, that change can come from meaningful, honest, therapeutic conversations.

Please have a look at my website if you are interested in knowing a little more about how I work.  Or pick up the phone, I am always happy to arrange a free fifteen minute chat so that we can explore whether we think we can work together.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling from Edinburgh University. My training encompassed both person-centred and psychodynamic psychotherapy and both remain valuable to me in my practice. There is a lot of jargon around the different counselling approaches – as a counsellor myself even I find them confusing - clients are often left wondering how modalities differ and which one is right for them. I believe passionately that, far more important than the type of counselling, is the relationship you build with your counsellor and that the most important thing at the outset of that relationship is that you feel understood and accepted. Because we are all unique in the reasons we look for help and in what we want to get out of that help, my approach and the relationship I build is different with each client; perhaps the only constant is that I will always try to be honest, empathetic and non-judgemental. Whatever you are looking for from counselling, I will aim to be alongside you as you explore, at your own pace, the issues that are causing you distress.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
