About me

With so many demands on your time, it’s easy to find yourself at the bottom of your priority list.  There’s always something or someone that needs your attention, so the idea of self-care may seem like an indulgence that you just don’t have time for.  I find that life has a way of making us stop and listen, whether that be through a physical or mental health concern, family or relationship difficulty, problems at work or a major life event.

I'm here to help you through these challenges.

You deserve to be heard.  You deserve to be listened to.  That’s where counselling comes in.  Walking into my therapy room, you’ll be met with a genuine warmth and empathy.  The transformative power of being accepted, just as you are, without judgement and of being truly seen and heard, is like no other.  Often people wonder what they’ll find to talk about or whether their problems are really ‘big enough’.  Believe me when I say there’s no problem too big or too small.  In our sessions, I will help you to explore what’s going on emotionally so that you can find out what’s lying underneath any uncomfortable feelings. It’s a journey of self-discovery and in my experience, a journey that leads to an enhanced feeling of wellbeing.

I know that taking that first step can be daunting.  I’ve been there too.  My aim is to make that step as easy as possible.

So if you’re ready to make a change, please get in touch.  We can arrange an initial consultation so that you can find out more about how I can help you feel better.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a registered, person-centred counsellor, providing individual sessions to adults and young people, helping with a wide range of issues, such as low self-esteem, anxiety, low mood and bereavement.  I have worked with a number of charitable and not-for-profit organisations, in addition to working with groups and individuals in corporate settings.

My private practice is based in the heart of Wilmslow, Cheshire and I also hold regular clinic days at the Alternative Health Clinic in New Mills, Derbyshire.

As a person-centred counsellor, I believe that we all, as humans, have the potential for growth and for self-actualisation, given the right environment.  My aim as a counsellor is therefore to create that environment, through the therapeutic relationship.

I practice a non-directive approach, allowing you, the client, to lead the session in whatever direction you feel is most crucial.  As Carl Rogers said, “It is the client who knows what hurts, what directions to go, what problems are crucial, what experiences have been deeply buried.”

BACP

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
