About me

Support, warmth, understanding and acceptance, together with a professional service, this is what I base my counselling practice on.  I offer a calm, confidential space to truly be heard and listened to without judgement or opinion.  A safe place in which you can explore your difficulties, struggles or confusions to enable you to recover your own perspective and clarity surrounding whatever issues are impacting your life.

I have experience with anxiety, depression, abuse, bereavement and loss, low self-esteem, ADHD, family and relationship issues, difficult childhood experiences, panic attacks, trauma and other generalised anxiety disorders.  I am also a member of BICA (British Infertility Counselling Association) providing support around infertility issues and the accompanying complexity of emotional distress this can bring.

I understand that living with the debilitating effects of anxiety, depression and sadness, for whatever reason, can be a draining, exhausting place to feel stuck in.  I also have training and experience of working with adverse childhood experiences (ACE's) and believe that the reverberating trauma and difficulties that result from this can impact our behaviour and sense of self, even decades later.

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, frustrating, unfair.....or even cruel, throwing so many unexpected hurdles in our way.  Struggling can be a lonely, isolating place and sometimes we need more than just talking to family and friends.

Talking to a counsellor about how you REALLY feel can seem like a challenging, daunting step to take but can also lead, ultimately, to a valuable, healing experience, providing clarity, understanding and a path to moving forward.

I am passionate about the benefits of counselling, concentrating on exploring and identifying your inner feelings, and the belief that with empathy, non-judgement and support YOU can find answers.

Seeking counselling can feel like a huge decision but it can also be the first step towards changing how you are feeling.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I work in a face to face setting in a private, comfortable room 5 minutes walk from Southport town centre, and also from a location in Churchtown, alternatively, I can provide online sessions.

I also offer a free 15 minute introductory phone call to provide you with the opportunity to briefly discuss your issues and decide if you would like us to work together.  I feel it is important for you to take this step with a counsellor you feel comfortable and 'at ease' with, to provide you with the safe environment and relationship necessary for a positive experience.

I believe in an holistic approach, that how we feel emotionally can greatly impact our physical sense of wellbeing.  If you are feeling ready to talk to someone please contact me for an appointment.
