About me

I am an experienced psychodynamic psychotherapist, trained to Masters level working for many years in the NHS and now private practice. I incorporate Mentalisation Based Therapy (MBT) principles in remaining open and curious to thinking about your difficulties with you. I can offer open ended or time limited contracts to help you understand yourself better and begin to make the changes you want to make.

The way I work is helping people to think about what is causing their distress and what brings them to psychotherapy at this time. This will involve thinking about early experiences and identifying patterns in past and current relationships, as well as considering experiences at work, in family groups and within the organisations you may be involved in. Together we will work to formulate an understanding of what is getting in the way of having the relationships you want and working towards living a more fulfilled life. Psychotherapy is a commitment and requires time and a regular space to work things through. I can offer you this in a time limited contract or in an open ended way where we agree to work to an ending when the time feels right for you.

Most of us spend a lot of time being part of groups; our original family group, teams at work; our newly created family groups; friendship groups and through work or leisure we can also be part of small or larger organisations. We often experience difficulties and conflicts in these groups. As well as individuals having an unconscious, organisations also function with a collective (or group) unconscious. I can help you think about your struggles within these groups and organisations as well as those in your personal relationships and wider family structures.

I have particular interest in working with issues related to sexuality, gender and relationship diversity and consider these as part of a spectrum rather than viewing them in binary ways

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
