About me

All sorts of people seek therapy at different times in their life.

Whether you know what you want to work on or are unsure, I am here to support you figure out things that are unique to you and your life situation.

In particular I have worked for a number of years with people who have experienced complexed trauma.  Whether current or historic, this can lead to a sense of not feeling ourselves and impact our relationships.

But whatever finds you here today, whether it be a sense of low self-esteem or depression, stress or anxiety, or issues in relationships or at work, therapy can be a valuable space.

Space to support you to figure out who you are and what you’ve been through.  This can allow for a more authentic connection with yourself and enhance relationships important to you.

How I work:

As a qualified Person-Centred & Experiential Psychotherapist to MSc (distinction) level, the core of my practice is a unique relationship with you.  One that is professional and confidential, based on a genuine, non-judgemental, and compassionate approach.

Between us we will work towards your therapeutic goals at a pace that feels OK to you.  My work will be tailored to your needs.  This allows for safe exploration to process your experiences, leading to personal healing and growth.

Where I work:

I work both in-person and remotely. I have a dedicated welcoming, professional and confidential space at home where I work during the daytime. Situated just outside Nottingham city centre, close to Sherwood, Mapperley and Arnold, with plenty of parking and frequent links to public transport.

Alternatively, I offer either remote or telephone sessions during the daytime or evening for which I have had specialist training for. I am happy to consider a blend of types of session depending on your unique situation and circumstances.

Next steps:

If you are thinking about entering into therapy with me, I would be delighted to offer you a free and confidential, no obligation 30-minute consultation.  My intention in offering this, is for you to ask any questions you might have and decide whether I am the right therapist for you.

Please get in touch - I am waiting to hear from you and support you in taking your next steps forward.

In summary, I could be the therapist for you if you:

  • are ready for change
  • are willing to explore the challenges you face
  • would value a non-judgemental and compassionate space

A little bit more about me:

What led me to become a psychotherapist included understanding my own unique experiences.  Losing my mum as a child saw me squash down my feelings to be 'coping well'.

Understanding that we each have unique needs and experiences, that will be different to those we grew up with or are closest to.  That came from life experiences that included several years volunteering at the national charity Childline.

I take pleasure in trying new things, whether it be creative or in contact with nature.  As well as noticing my viewing or reading is related to a diversity of personal, environmental, or political material.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have had significant training and experience in a wide range of issues, but have included information on my special interests to help you decide if I might be the right therapist for you:

Relationships

With ourselves, others, our communities, and environments are essential for our well-being.  Often though these come with challenges that may lead to:

  • low self-esteem
  • depression
  • anxiety
  • mental health issues

My intention is to offer a therapeutic relationship where you feel genuinely heard, understood, and respected.  To offer a unique space just for you so that you might be supported in figuring things out for yourself.

Complexed trauma

Do you ever feel like you are not like everyone else?

That there are parts of you that are not seen or understood by those closest to you?

This can be the legacy of:

  • neglect
  • emotional abuse that includes gaslighting
  • physical abuse
  • sexual assault/abuse

I have worked for several years with survivors of abusive relationships including domestic abuse/violence.  Often these are complexed in the layers or contexts that might include factors such as gender, race, or socio-economical intersections.  To support my work in this area I have undertaken specialized and specific training that includes:

  • trauma informed practice
  • PTSD/CPTSD
  • self-harm/suicide
  • research exploring relationship between gender and power
  • BSc (Hons) Biological Science
  • experience within pharmaceuticals

These all help in understanding both the psychological and biological mechanisms involved in working with complexed trauma.  It is an area I feel passionately about, supporting people find their own voice amongst their experiencing.

Bereavement

Grief can persist way beyond what is often considered the 'norm' or 'acceptable' timeframes, leading to unresolved grief which can be complicated when the bereavement has been traumatic.

I have experience in supporting people make sense of their unique grief processes, whether historic and unresolved, or through trauma such as ending one's life by suicide.

I do not hold the answers for you and your process, but my commitment is to provide space that facilitates a unique and individual meaningful process of your grief.

If you have any questions, please get in touch.  I am waiting to hear from you and support you in taking your next steps forward.
