About me

Therapy can offer an opportunity to understand ourselves better and to find ways to make healthy and positive changes. However, embarking on this may feel like a daunting prospect and so it is important to work with a therapist with whom you can feel comfortable; if after reading my profile you are interested in the possibility of working together please contact me to arrange an initial meeting where we could think about the best way forward for you.

What I offer:

I am an integrative therapist, which means that I have been trained in and use different therapeutic modalities. This allows me to use my knowledge and experience of different theories to meet the particular needs of the person and what they wish to achieve.

There could be a clear reason why you are considering psychotherapy; maybe a recent life change or something that you have been dealing with for some time. In this instance, therapy might focus on helping you manage difficult circumstances or working towards reducing symptoms of depression or anxiety. Or you may have a more general sense that you feel stuck in some way. You may be feeling unhappy or anxious. You may find yourself behaving in ways that are difficult to understand or that interfere with your wellbeing or relationships. In this case, therapy could explore how past experience continues to impact upon the way you think, feel and behave today, so that you are better equipped to make positive changes.

My role is to provide a confidential, safe place to explore and work through things in a challenging but supportive way. As a counselling psychologist I pay particular attention to developing the therapeutic relationship. Not only has this has repeatedly been shown to be one of the most significant predictors of success in therapy, but I am also aware that it can take time to develop a trusting therapeutic relationship, particularly if we have been let down or hurt by others in the past. An important part of my role to ensure that we move at a pace that works well for you.

I see individuals for both short-term and open-ended therapy. The sessions last 50 minutes and typically occur on a weekly basis.

What to expect during our first meeting:

The purpose of the initial meeting is for us to think about the best way forward for you. We would meet for 50 minutes, so that you can get a sense of whether you would feel comfortable working together and I can determine whether my approach is best-suited to your needs.

It is also possible to have 15 minute phone consultation prior to meeting.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a HCPC Registered Counselling Psychologist (PYL34453).  During my training and professional practice, I have trained in different approaches including Psychodynamic & Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). My approach is integrative; the therapy is tailored to best address the person's difficulties and meet their goals.

I have 10 years experience of working as a therapist in the NHS, working with depression, anxiety, difficulties in relationships, childhood trauma, low self-esteem, difficulty in managing emotions and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  I am currently completing my EMDR training.

I have also worked at specialist counselling organisations supporting male and female survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
