About me

Hi, I'm Ian, an experienced counsellor specialising in working with men, and those who are new to therapy. I often work with those who are undergoing life changes such as parenthood, relationship and sexual difficulties and career change.

Whatever you are bringing, I will work in a way that offers you empathy, support and respect. We will go at your pace, discussing the difficult issues when you feel you are ready to do so. And if you are unsure on the process, just give me a call.

As a therapist, I will provide you with a safe, supportive space to explore whatever is troubling you. That may be something specific, such as anxiety, panic attacks or persistent low mood. It may also be something that feels harder to put into words, such as repeating the same relationship patterns, failing to achieve your goals or the feeling that you have simply lost your way in life.

My approach

The way I work usually involves integrating both psychodynamic and CBT approaches. This involves looking below the surface to understand the roots of the problem as well as developing strategies to help you to cope better and interrupt patterns of unhelpful behaviour and ways of thinking.

I offer a space in which issues that can be difficult to discuss can be explored in a confidential and non-judgemental way. These issues can include struggles with intimacy, anxiety and lack of confidence.

Together, for as long as you need, we can tackle any difficult subjects when you feel you’re ready. So whatever you are looking for; talking with a trained, empathetic listener can be a profoundly healing experience.

Please feel free to get in touch if you would like to book a one-off session at which you can explain what brings you in and we can plan a way forward.

I am experienced in both open-ended and short-term, focused work.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
