About me

Welcome

As you’ve landed here, it's likely that you're navigating a period of distress and grappling with unresolved issues that you’re ready to address. If so, please know that you're warmly welcomed as you embark on this initial step. I hope that this profile gives you the information you need.

I offer support with a wide range of life’s challenges, such as interpersonal trauma, family dynamics, relationships, life transitions, anxiety, depression, coping with life events, stress and burnout, difficult emotions, obsessions, compulsions, lack of direction or fulfilment, loss and grief, and communication skills.

I work with adults and young people aged 16 and over on a one-to-one basis, usually for weekly sessions lasting 60 minutes. Sessions are currently available online or on the telephone. I offer a free initial phone consultation where we can talk through what to expect, with no obligation to continue.

What to expect from therapy

I understand that starting counselling, whether it be for the first time or with a new counsellor, can be quite daunting. There are many unknowns. I can help to make those first steps as easy and straightforward as possible.

Many people find that just starting the process brings relief and increased clarity. Naming something and sharing it with someone who listens sympathetically can be the first step to being able to find a deeper understanding, to develop new perspectives, and to discover new ways forward.

Therapy provides a unique relationship for you to talk things through, explore and reflect. My primary focus is to create a safe and accepting space for you, where your story is heard and your experiences are genuinely valued. As your therapist, my role is one of support and collaboration. Together, we will explore the factors that have led you to where you are, and we’ll gain insight into your patterns of thought, your behaviours, and your emotional processes.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an integrative, person-centred counsellor with additional training in Transactional Analysis psychotherapy. This means that I align to you and your way of working and am able to offer a range of strategies to facilitate the process. I am process-oriented, which means my approach is based on being alive to the present moment and open to what unfolds in the space we create between us.

Whilst we’ll spend most of our time talking, we can also explore other approaches if these feel right for you - such as using mindfulness, body awareness, creative processes or dreamwork.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Professional Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling - City of Bristol College, 2010
  • The Berne Institute Diploma in Transactional Analysis Counselling, 2017

My initial training was in humanistic integrative counselling with a core person-centred approach.

I later completed five years' training in Transactional Analysis psychotherapy.

I keep myself up-to-date on developments in the field by attending several short courses a year. Recent training has covered topics such as ADHD, polyvagal theory and working with trauma.

My experience includes several years with Help! Counselling working with clients aged 16-25, and 3 years with the Swan Project, an agency providing counselling for adults with addiction issues, particularly alcohol.  I've also spent a number of years managing local service delivery to support people navigating the criminal justice system, including people impacted by sexual violence.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
