About me

I am a professionally trained counsellor & psychotherapist. I have worked with clients on many issues such as loss & bereavement, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and family issues. Making sense of whatever is troubling you can feel like an impossible task. I work with clients to build a trusted relationship in which they feel safe enough to tell their story. I will support you in gaining understanding and acceptance of yourself.

My belief is that a relationship based on authentic communication, respect, and empathy can facilitate the possibility for personal growth. I aim to offer such a relationship in my work with clients. It is important that you feel comfortable in your choice of counsellor as this is the foundation for building that relationship. I offer a free 20-minute consultation which gives you the chance to ask any questions and provides you an opportunity to see if I am the right counsellor for you.

I work using an integrative model; this means that I draw on multiple theoretical approaches whilst holding the relationship at the centre of all that I do. I do not offer solutions, but I hope to facilitate a space which enables you to find your own.  My aim is not to judge you but to understand you and your life experiences. In my experience this exploration leads to a greater awareness of self. This can be hugely empowering and provide you with an opportunity for personal growth.

Some clients prefer to work to a fixed number of sessions. However, others work open ended. I encourage regularly reviewing the work together and mutually agreeing an appropriate time to end.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • FdSc Counselling (merit)
  • Levels 1-3 Helpful listening skills and counselling
  • MBACP (membership)

My work at a local hospice supporting bereaved relatives, carers and patients has shown me that even in the most difficult of times human connection is essential. I have worked with clients to find self-acceptance in order to facilitate a change in their lives. I support clients in building a sense of self-worth and in finding their authentic self.

As a member of the BACP I adhere to the ethical guidelines that they outline. I attend regular supervision sessions where I gain guidance and support in my work from a registered supervisor. I am committed to continual profession development through attending training workshops, talks and ensuring that I am aware of current research.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
