About me

The only journey is the journey within.

Rainer Maria Rilke

J.O.Y; a collaborative, compassionate and creative counselling space where the Journey of You is placed at the centre.

Navigating life’s road map is rarely linear, instead it can bring about a confusing maze of emotions. In every relationship and event, we travel to places which may bare witness to unimaginable sadness or indescribable happiness. Each step forward we regard the future, each step back we reflect on the past. These journeys may cause us to question the paths we have taken.

Counselling offers a therapeutic relationship where we can begin the process of encountering your map. During our sessions, we co-create a path to discover your values, worthiness and potential. By understanding the uniqueness of your experiences, and empathically placing myself in your shoes, we explore wisdom together. A space without fear of judgement and criticism where trust and acceptance facilitate your counselling journey.

Journeying together in meaningful connection across the human landscape to live the life you desire.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an experienced, qualified Counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I am trained in integrative modalities; Psychodynamic and Person Centred. Person Centred therapy aims to encourage individuals to develop their potential through a nurturing relationship. Psychodynamic counselling offers an insight into how past experiences can be resolved so that you can live more fully in the present.

I integrate creativity to compliment my core approaches. I believe that through the arts we can reconnect to the unspoken parts of ourselves, by giving them shape, colour, symbols or metaphor as a means of expression. I use a variety of tools to facilitate this from playdough, sand tray work and Russian dolls to storytelling through drawing. Depending on the client’s preferences, this can feel a safer way to awaken the voice within.

I am passionate in advocating Mental Health and Well Being access for children and young people. Fundamentally I believe that we all have a right to a provision which embraces our individual strengths, interests and circumstances. Adopting a proactive, relational approach is incredibly important to me in that it promotes autonomous solution seeking whilst placing their best interests at heart.

I have worked for a number of agencies and charities in Gloucestershire and Bristol specialising in counselling for children and young people in tandem with CAMHS and the NHS.

I have worked in Gloucestershire’s mainstream Education sector specialising in collaborative and multi-agency partnerships for children with Special Educational Needs. Inclusion, equality and equity is at the heart of my professional practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

There is no obligation to continue if this is not the case.

I am currently available on Monday  and Friday face to face or online.

  • I can offer a sliding scale of concessionary rate according to personal circumstance.

I accept cash or electronic transfer. I'm sorry but I cannot accept cheques or card payments.

For further information or to make an appointment please contact me on 07539386399 or via email. If I am unavailable to take your call or email, please leave your name, number and a brief message, and I will aim to get back to you within 2 working days.

I see clients at a comfortable therapy room in Claremont House, Lydney with plenty of free parking.

Parents and carers of young clients are welcome to stay outside of the room in a comfortable seated area.

During the pandemic, I offered client’s sessions via Zoom and by phone. Transferring to virtual sessions, during an unprecedented situation, need not diminish the relational experience. For some clients it offers the familiar, home based, setting they require and as such have chosen to continue sessions this way.

I am able to work flexibly, both face to face and virtually.

I offer either time limited or open ended counselling. Sessions usually take place weekly, however, I am guided by you. I aim to be accommodating for clients who feel that weekly sessions are not what they need in this moment.
