About me

Feel Seen.

Fiona Rogers.

Private Professional Counselling Service.

I am a professionally trained and qualified integrative, humanistic counsellor. This means that my aim will always be to provide a warn and welcoming space for you to feel safe enough  to talk about  and explore any difficulties that you may be experiencing.

What do I mean by being seen? Often in our lives when we encounter the many difficulties that can be part of the human experience. For example, feelings of anxiety,  bereavement, relationship difficulties, work demands, changes in health status, confusion in relation to our identity or generally feeling lost or stuck.   We can find it difficult to talk about how we really feel for fear of being judged or because we want to protect those closest to us.  We can feel like the proverbial hamster on a wheel. Whilst we may be able to function in our lives to enable us to fulfil the many commitments that most of us have. We can easily  become overwhelmed and experience burnout . We can sometimes attempt to self-soothe using  food, alcohol, medications, spending, gambling, hoarding or a range of other unhealthy behaviours which whilst helping in the short term, often lead to us encountering even more difficulties in the long run.

Having a safe space where you feel comfortable enough to be able to bring your difficulties without fear of judgment and to experience the feeling of being seen and heard. Can be incredibly powerful as an agent of self-understanding often resulting in the changes that you feel need to be made. It can often be the first step to helping you find a changed perspective and a way forward again. As an integrative counsellor, I am trained to be able to offer you a range of therapeutic and psychotherapeutic approaches that are best suited to you as an individual and to your unique experience. Putting you at the centre of the counselling process and viewing you as the expert on yourself with the potential to help yourself is central to the person-centred approach in which I am trained.  I am also able to draw on Gestalt principles which means that I can support you in gaining more self-awareness, which in turn can be very helpful. All the approaches that I offer are underpinned by existentialist philosophy. This means that I will invite you to consider what it is that you really want in your life and what gives you meaning.

As well as being a fully qualified integrative counsellor. I have considerable experience of working within the NHS as a senior nurse. I have worked in very emotionally and psychologically challenging environments that include intensive care, pain management and deceased organ donation. I believe that this exposure has provided me with considerable insight into how we are affected when faced with trauma and loss. I have a particular interest in how illness and the changed identity that often accompanies a diagnosis, operation, procedure or experience of pain can negatively affect our psychological and emotional health going forward.

I am able to offer face-to-face, online, and telephone counselling. For anyone experiencing difficulties relating to being able to leave their homes.  I am able to offer home visits. I work out of a private and professional wellbeing organisation based in Bridgend. I am able to offer both short and long-term counselling.

There is a considerable body of research that identifies the importance of the relationship between the counsellor and the client as the most important factor that will influence the outcome of the therapeutic process. In view of this, I am happy to provide a free 15-minute telephone appointment to enable us to speak with each other to discuss your individual needs and for me to be able to give you an overview of what I can offer.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
