About me
Qualifying as a counsellor taught me I am different to other people. Counselling supports us to understand and accept who we are which can improve all areas of our life.
I provide 1:1 sessions in Southbourne, Bournemouth for adults and have a background in mental health. I have worked with: anxiety, depression, loss, bereavement, family and relationship issues, low self esteem, confidence or motivation, stress and intense emotions such as anger.
I focus on what you feel is important. Working together can give a clearer understanding of what you are experiencing which leads to seeing things in a different way and strengthens your ability to find a way forward. You may want to change areas in your life and counselling can be a place to explore that together.
It takes courage to reach out, making contact helps us decide the next steps with no obligation. I provide a space which is free from judgement where you can talk confidentially and experience warmth and acceptance from someone who wants to see things from your perspective. Your choices and feelings will be valued, and your privacy will always be protected.
I am trained in a variety of approaches which enables me to find way of working that suits you. This includes different types of talking therapy or working in a more creative way.
Working with our unconscious is a way of understanding things we may not be aware of which can be helpful and healing. You don't have to be creative, it is just a way of looking at an issue in a different way that does not rely on words.
Training, qualifications & experience
Humanistic Integrative Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling led to counselling for a service based in Lymington. I have over 20 years experience of helping people. I have worked in supportive roles in education, the criminal justice system and on NHS mental health wards such as: eating disorders, dementia, intensive care, forensic, adolescent unit and the crisis helpline. I previously trained as a Dramatherapist and delivered group sessions at the Maudsley Hospital in London. My anger management diploma from the British Association of Anger Management led to delivering therapeutic programmes and training.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
