About me

I respect the courage it takes to reach out. I provide a space where you can talk confidentially and experience warmth, support and acceptance from someone who wants to see things from your perspective. Listening to what you are going through gives us both a deeper understanding, together we can begin to make sense of things which will provide relief. You will feel more able to manage and cope with what you find difficult.

We can find a way to come to terms with things, explore anything you would like to be different and how to go about making that happen. I work in a gentle way with care and consideration at your pace. Your choices, thoughts and feelings will always be respected.

I provide 1:1 sessions in Southbourne, Bournemouth for adults over 18 and have a background in mental health. I have worked with: anxiety, depression, loss, bereavement, family and relationship issues, divorce and separation, low self esteem, confidence or motivation, stress and intense emotions such as anger.

I am a integrative counsellor working in a person centred way which means you will feel valued. I use empathy and honesty to help you reconnect and strengthen your own ability to deal with life’s problems.

Every person is unique and has different circumstances, I am trained in a variety of approaches which enables me to find way of working that suits you to live in a more fulfilling way. This includes:

  • Different types of talking therapy.
  • Working with our body using somatic techniques, gestures and movement to shift what is stored in our body.
  • Or working in a more creative way using a sand tray, objects, imagery and symbolism. Working with our unconscious is a way of understanding things we may not be aware of which can be helpful and healing.

Training, qualifications & experience

Integrative Therapeutic Counselling qualification led to counselling for a service based in Lymington. I have over 20 years experience of helping people. I have worked in supportive roles in education, the criminal justice system and on NHS mental health wards such as: eating disorders, dementia, intensive care, forensic, adolescent unit and the crisis helpline.

I previously trained as a Dramatherapist and delivered group sessions at the Maudsley Hospital in London. My anger management diploma from the British Association of Anger Management led to delivering therapeutic programmes and training.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
