About me

I have been working as a Counsellor for 9 years and have had experience working with a variety of different issues. The style of therapy I use will vary from person to person depending on your own unique needs in therapy. I enjoy working creatively and will sometimes use paper and objects during sessions to help explore what's going on for you. I offer a space where you can discuss your faith with someone who understands your frame of reference yet is outside of your personal network.

After initial contact, I will arrange a telephone assessment, to hear more about your reason for seeking counselling and to check that we are the right fit. It is important to find the right counsellor, so this is a good opportunity to chat about what you are hoping to gain from the process and for me to answer any questions you might have about counselling as a whole, or the way I work.

Each session is 50 minutes long. The first session is where we go through the therapy agreement and we get to know one another a bit more. After this, the process of therapy is determined by what you would like to discuss and what methods or tools you find the most helpful. I generally agree to 6 sessions to begin with, but this will be reviewed regularly, so more sessions are available.

Therapy can feel a little scary but I do my best to create a warm atmosphere where you feel at ease and safe enough to dig deeper into your struggles. My hope is that by the end of therapy you will have more clarity, feel less overwhelmed and more able to express and process your thoughts and feelings.

Sometimes life can seem like a lot to handle alone, so having someone to walk the difficult path with us for a while can make all the difference.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and have since completed further training in the 'Dynamics of Biblical Change' with CCEF, and trained in issues surrounding fertility and child loss with Image Counselling.

Alongside my own practice I support an NHS therapy service offering counselling to clients suffering with anxiety and depression.

I regularly attend CPD workshops and training events to update and add to my skills and knowledge base. This is in line with the recommendations of my professional bodies.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

ACC
Association for Christian Counsellors (ACC)

The Association of Christian Counsellors and Linked Professions is a professional body representing and setting standards for Christian counselling and care in the UK. The organisation is made up of various different membership categories, including Counsellor and Accredited, and requires all members working as counsellors to undertake Continuous Professional Development on a regular basis.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
