About me

I am on annual leave from Mon 13th July to Friday 17th July 2026

Are you living like you're on edge all the time, have lost your confidence or living with the constant pressure of caring for others, you might feel overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure who you are anymore. Maybe you’re exhausted from holding everything together, worry you're going to upset people, or feeling disconnected from your body. You might notice general anxiety showing up in ways that don’t always make sense like a  racing mind, tension in your chest, difficulty relaxing, or a constant sense of alertness. None of this means you’re failing. It often means your body learned to survive in situations where you didn’t feel safe.

I’m here to support you through that.

Our work together is grounded in a warm, steady, and reparative relationship,  a space where you can feel respected and understood. From the work I do I have noticed that many people haven’t always had relationships where their needs were met or their emotions were welcomed. In our sessions, you get to experience something different: a relationship that respects your boundaries, your pace, and your story. Over time, this can gently reshape how you relate to yourself and others.

We can explore how your past experiences have shaped your nervous system, your patterns, and the way you move through the world. I’ll help you make sense of how trauma can live in the body and how it can show up as anxiety, overwhelm, people‑pleasing, or difficulty trusting yourself. Together, we’ll work toward helping you feel more grounded, confident, and connected.

If you’re juggling grief, whether that’s the loss of a person, a role, or a sense of identity, you’ll have space to express what feels heavy and to move through it at your own pace. Nothing has to be rushed. Nothing has to be hidden.

As a breathwork coach, I also bring in simple, supportive practices that help you regulate your nervous system, release tension, and reconnect with your body in a way that feels safe and manageable.

If you’re ready to soften old survival patterns, understand yourself more deeply, feel empowered and feel more at home in your life, then please contact me for support.

Make that brave step and contact me for further information for a free 20 min consultation. No commitment, just see if this support might work for you. check out my website for more details: www.dowricktherapy.com

A bit about me and how I work:

I work with young people (16 years and over) and adults focusing on the person and their issues. This could also include building self awareness, looking at what's going on for you right now, changing unhelpful behaviours, making choices, relationships and life events such as loss and bereavement.  This could also include looking into your past to see what impact your childhood may have had on the way you feel now, for example the impact of abuse/ bullying or not feeling you 'fit in' with society. Whatever your need we can work together at your own pace.

I have worked for 30 years teaching and working in education. I currently am a CPCAB Level 2 and 3 Counselling tutor supporting students in their journey of self discovery and change.  I understand the anxiety and demands of working in education and the impact it can have on oneself - physically and emotionally.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have a personal and professional interest in loss and grief, ambiguous loss and anticipatory grief.  In particular caring for an ill loved one, the effect is can have on the person who is caring and the ripple effect it can cause to the rest of the family. The work I do is also Trauma-informed so noticing the effect loss can have on the body and mind and how the two are interlinked. This can include panic attacks and PTSD.  I offer support and up to date education on Polyvagal Theory to support your own self awareness and development.

The first session is a space for you to talk about your needs, concerns and what you hope to achieve from counselling.  It’s a way for us to build a working relationship which supports you.
