About me
I am a Counselling Psychologist, fully qualified. I am an Associate Fellow of BPS Scotland and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychology Society. I offer confidential psychological therapy which is tailored to the needs of the client. I have a humanistic approach which means that I will place you, the individual, at the centre of the therapy and work with you in a collaborate and flexible way. As a Counselling Psychologist, I am trained in two modalities and informed by others. In this way, it allows me to draw on the theoretical knowledge that best suits your particular circumstances and difficulties. As no-one has the same background and life experiences, I believe my approach allows therapeutic interventions to have more meaning and purpose to bring more balance back into your life.
My practice is based in the Hub, Vicar Street, Falkirk which is part of a larger business premises which has a reception and cafe area. It provides discrete access to psychological services which can feel daunting for some people. I have taken care to provide a calm and inviting setting as I believe in offering a safe space for individuals to explore and talk about their difficulties.
Initial appointments will give you a chance to explore what is causing you distress, and an opportunity for us to discuss the various ways in which we could work together to address those issues. You can learn more about what to expect from counselling to ensure that you are comfortable with the process, and comfortable with me as your therapist. Life can be difficult at times. It is my aim to help empower you and enable you to move forward with purpose and meaning.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have worked with adults aged 18 years and over from a variety of backgrounds who have experienced a range of psychological difficulties such as:- work related stress, redundancy, anxiety, depression, misophonia, PTSD, road traffic accident related trauma, domestic abuse, substance misuse, suicide, and bereavement.
Supervision:
I provide supervision sessions to trainee Counselling Psychologists and counsellors from other disciplines, together with those seeking supervision post-qualification. I have particular experience in working with those trainees on the DPsych. Counselling Psychology programme at GCU and I am aware of the needs and requirements of the course.
My approach to supervision is: to ensure that the supervisee receives support in terms of reflecting and evaluating their skills and knowledge to aid learning; help to develop their professional practice to the required standards; and includes restorative functions in terms of the emotional impact of working as a therapist (Proctor's 3 Function Interactive Model). Each supervisee is unique and I therefore incorporate the use of Stoltenberg & Delworth's Integrated Developmental Model to ensure that the supervisee develops and advances from their current stage, as their confidence and skills grow.
Each supervisee therefore receives supervision that is tailored to their needs. Collaboration on this is essential. I therefore encourage my supervisees to engage with me throughout this process to ensure that their supervision sessions are of benefit to their practice and development.
My qualifications and experience include:
- Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at Glasgow Caledonian University
- G.Dip Psychology at Glasgow Caledonian University
- BA Law at Napier University, Edinburgh
- Essential Supervision Skills Training
- Psychology Lecturer/Tutor
