About me

I am a reliable, attentive and dedicated counsellor / therapist with a decade's clinical experience in a range of professional settings (including an NHS provider, a GP surgery, several charities and a private counselling firm). We all come to counselling with different ideas and expectations of what we would like, want and need. I aim to not only meet, but surpass your expectations of counselling by working in a flexible way that is not simply derived from textbooks and routinely applied, but that emerges out the unique way you and I relate to each-other, resulting in a counselling experience that is both methodologically sound and authentic, but (most importantly) still very 'you'.

Whilst I bring an expertise in therapeutic concepts and relevant psychological theory, I am not the expert on you. It is through balanced collaboration that therapy is successful and I put you, the client, at the centre of all I do in session, being genuinely invested in your well-being and dependent upon your honest reflections to guide the process.

I have worked very successfully with hundreds of clients from a wide range of backgrounds. I am highly competent in working with a variety of common presenting issues including, but not limited to; anxiety (generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder), depression (low mood / feeling sad), stress, addiction, grief, self-esteem, phobias, relationship issues, abuse, self-harm, trauma and eating disorders. I work integratively to draw on conceptual frameworks from a number of theoretical bases including; person-centred, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), transactional analysis, narrative therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and attachment theory.

To find out more please call or text 07736 505 709 to book a free 30 minute consultation (tel / zoom / IM). The consultation will be a chance for me to introduce myself and help you share a little about what has brought you to counselling. I will also be able to answer any questions you might have. From this point the 2 of us can have a discussion about if / how counselling might be able to help you before you decide whether or not to book your first session.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified at The University of Manchester to Masters level (with distinction) in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and hold a 1st Class Honours undergraduate degree from the University of Nottingham. I have also consistently engaged in further training and development opportunities which has included specialist training in; anxiety, grief, personality disorder, trauma, sexual abuse and eating disorders amongst others.

In addition to private practice my employed roles have included; Senior Psychological Therapist for an NHS provider (eating disorders), Mental Health & Well-Being Manager for Manchester-based youth charity and radio station 'Reform Radio', Counselling Clinical Lead and clinical supervisor for a London-based counselling service, as well as associate roles in counselling for both a national charity and a private counselling firm. In all my work I have established a reputation for dedicated and flexible work and excellent outcomes. Across my roles I provide supervision to trainees, group / 1:1 clinical supervision, facilitate several monthly support groups, and design and deliver ad-hoc psycho-educational workshops to staff and service users alike.

I hold a BPS accredited qualification in clinical supervision and provide both group and 1:1 clinical supervision as well psycho-educational workshops for a local youth charity.

I am a registered member of the BACP, with whom I have been published, and I am about to apply for accreditation status which I have every reason to believe will be accepted.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
