About me

Hello, my name is Colin and thank you for taking the time to visit my profile page.

I am a Fully Qualified and Accredited Person-Centred Counsellor who has a Private Practice in East Kilbride (Village Area) and I also work as a School Counsellor at a large comprehensive school.

As someone who has lived in the Greater Glasgow area all my life I was rarely encouraged to talk of my emotions, and my own experience of attending counselling helped me appreciate how that can lead to positive change.

In my practice I am happy to work with both adults and young people (13+ years old).

Taking that first step to reach out for emotional help can seem a daunting prospect, which is why I aim to make that process as easy as possible by offering a free 30 minute phone or Zoom call prior to arranging any future counselling sessions.

Therapy and Counselling

The relationship between therapist and client is the bedrock of the person-centred approach and as your therapist, I aim to help you find clarity and a way forward at your own pace.

In our relationship I will be open, honest and listen to you with empathy and without judgement, offering a confidential and safe environment to help our relationship flourish.

Our sessions together will be based on trust and kindness and in our sessions together I will give myself fully to you to ensure that you have the best possible chance of a positive outcome from attending counselling.

If you feel ready to take the first step or if you just wish to know a little more about me before you decide, I welcome your enquiry.

Training, qualifications & experience

Experience

After gaining my Counselling and Psychotherapy PG Diploma in 2019 I set up my own Private Practice in East Kilbride, where I see a wide cross-section of clients from the age of 12 years old and upwards.

Prior to joining the counselling profession I was a listening volunteer, mentor and trainer with The Samaritans in Glasgow for many years, and it was there I learned how the act of listening could help and support people suffering from depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts.

Qualifications

  • Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • COSCA Counselling Skills Certificate
  • Introduction to Counselling

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
