About me

Experienced, accredited and personable psychotherapist working online/face to face with adults near Reading, Berkshire and in London. Finding the right therapist for you is so important, therefore I offer a free initial consultation so we can chat about what therapy may best suit your needs, and if I am the right therapist for you.

I understand that it is hard to know where to start when finding a therapist. Therefore when we first chat, we will think about what has brought you here, what you may hope to achieve from therapy, and if working together has the potential for change for the better. We will also discuss whether open ended or short term therapy might be best for you.

I offer both short and long term psychotherapy, and have over 9 years experience. I am also trained in EMDR for cases involving trauma, whether a single incident/event, or historical events which impact day to day functioning.

I believe my caring, honest and kind approach as a therapist leads to positive change within individuals. At the core of my approach is a belief that understanding our immediate/past experiences may enable us to make sense of difficult feelings or events, and spur future changes in our lives. I provide a confidential and safe space for you to talk and feel heard, and where understanding may be gained. We can explore the difficulties you may be going through, free from judgement, and think about what experiences may have shaped your life as it is today.

I offer specialist support with;

-Anxiety

-Depression

-Emotional Regulation

-Stress

-Loss

-Anger

-Relationship difficulties/changes

-Trauma

-Major life changes

-Counter-productive coping strategies, (including but not limited to) self harm, disordered eating, addiction.

As a Co-Founder and director of Private Psychotherapy London, I work in private practice in both London and Berkshire. I also practice within a secondary school. As part of the professional standard I maintain regular professional development through supervision, courses and training.

Training, qualifications & experience

- Fully qualified and experienced psychodynamic psychotherapist, having trained and completed a 5 year postgraduate clinical and academic training.

- EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing) Accredited Training.

- Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Theory and Practice.

- Diploma in Adolescent Counselling in Schools, (Person-centred) from the Metanoia Institute.

-Postgraduate Certificate in Counselling Skills.

- BSc in Sociology and Psychology (1st Hons).

- Experience includes working in Schools, the Samaritans, and WPF Therapy where I provided psychotherapy and counselling, and undertaking consultations/assessments.

-I am a professional member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), British Associate of Counselling, Psychotherapy (BACP), and the Foundation of Psychotherapy and Counselling (FPC). All of these organisations have strict ethical codes and professional standards of confidentiality to which I subscribe.

-Previously I have also been a tutor in a secondary school, and prior to my career as a psychotherapist I worked with the Armed Forces. As such I have practical and clinical experience of the differing pressures, stress, and trauma experienced by adults or adolescents from a variety of backgrounds.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
