About me

Hi I’m Carolyn, I work with people who feel stuck and have lost a sense of who they are.  This might show up as anxiety, low self-esteem, sadness and depression or feeling out of sorts.  You might be overwhelmed and stressed from a busy workload and outer obligations, all contributing to a sense of worthlessness and lack of direction.

In my counselling room you can bring any issues to the table, even if you don’t fully understand them - I often hear “I have a good life, I shouldn’t feel this way”. Thoughts like these carry so much internal judgement, working together we can explore those judgements and start to carry them differently.

As the client, you will be able to set the pace and direction of what we cover in sessions and I will respond to your lead.  I understand that starting counselling can be intimidating and even the prospect of growth and moving in a positive direction can feel frightening because it may be a leap into the unknown. I aim to attend our sessions as myself while fully engaged in your journey and experiences. People have told me they feel supported during their sessions and while it can be difficult to share hard experiences it also helps to lighten their load.  The benefit of this is it can help you access your resilience and increase self-awareness which can help you to gain trust in your inner knowing.

In my work I am led by compassion and I am also passionate about people finding space in their lives for more positive experiences.  To connect with what really matters to you and live by your values.  I think that this has a restorative, recharging effect.

Counselling offers a contained confidential 50 minute window in your week in which you can gain clarity, insight and might look at your issues from a new perspective.  If you would like to find more balance in your life and discover and explore what lies beyond your problems I want to help empower you to access your sense of contentment, purpose and joy.  Get in touch with me either by email, text or voicemail and I will arrange a free 15 minute introductory call.

Training, qualifications & experience

As an integrative counsellor, I draw from theoretical frameworks that are appropriate depending on what you bring to the sessions, being client led means I work collaboratively with you to find which interventions are the right fit for you.  My main modalities are CBT, Person Centred Therapy and Transactional Analysis.

Over the past few years I have specialised in working with clients suffering with issues such as anxiety, low self-esteem, and a loss of a sense of self.  I also have experience with depression and grief.

I work online or in person from my counselling room in Cheadle Hulme.

I'm a fully qualified counsellor with a level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.  I am a Registered member of the BACP and abide by their ethical framework.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
