About me

You are probably looking for a counsellor because you want to make changes to your life. To take ownership of your story but you’re feeling overwhelmed and don’t know where to start.

I can help you to gain clarity, prepare for change and offer support throughout the process.  Whether the change is altering the way you perceive things, doing something different or making space to accept things the way they are. I help you to explore what really matters, identify patterns that keep you feeling stuck and develop your inner resilience.

“I shouldn’t feel like this – I have a good life”

You might even feel guilty for not enjoying life as much as you think you should because you have no “real issues”. If this resonates, I’d invite you to consider that you deserve to feel better. No-one should feel like they need to earn the right to receive help –counselling is for everyone

Life can be overwhelming which makes it hard to know what next step to take, or how to get back to feeling like you used to. This can be made more difficult if you also have additional issues, such as anxiety, depression or challenges with low self-esteem. This feeling makes me think of a tightly tied knot that seems impenetrable and stuck. Through working together, you can slowly start to unpick your challenges, as the knot loosens you can visualise new perspectives and opportunities to do things differently.

Any changes you make, even if they are positive, can lead to an anxious feeling because you’re moving out of your comfort zone into unfamiliar territory. That’s why having support from a neutral person outside your usual daily contacts can be helpful.

My areas of expertise:

1.      Low self-esteem – commonly, low self-esteem leads you to hold yourself back which can make you feel like you’re not fulfilling your potential. Along with this, you may have a loud inner critic and experience feelings of worthlessness.

2.      Anxiety – I work to explore what triggers your anxiety, how you experience this in the body and consider the deeper meaning behind your anxiety. Working with rather than against anxiety towards the life you want.

I like to help people find space in their lives for more positive experiences and to connect with what really matters to them.

How I work:

My counselling room is a relaxed, homely space for us to work together. Attending counselling is one way to demonstrate your commitment to change and moving forward.

I will follow your lead, allowing you to set the pace and to talk about what feels important for you. The result of this is the counselling you receive will be unique to you. I work in this way because it will help increase your self-awareness and trust in your inner knowing.

I really listen to what you say and your experience, this informs how I blend techniques and interventions. I use tools taken from a wide theoretical base, that are well researched and shown to be effective.

Working together:

I work online or in person from my counselling room in Cheadle Hulme.

Counselling offers a contained confidential 50-minute window in your week in which you can gain clarity, insight and look at your issues from a new perspective.

To find out more about how I work or to ask any questions, get in touch with me by email, text or voicemail and I will arrange a free 20-minute introductory call.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
