About me

Talking with other people about our problems can be difficult, but we all go through times in our lives when we could benefit from allowing someone else to help.  Whether you have a specific problem that feels urgent or a general feeling of unease in your life that you cannot make sense of, I can support you in finding a way forward. Whatever reason you have for seeking therapy at this point, it is valid.

I believe it is just as important for me to listen with my heart, as well as with my head, in order to make the therapeutic experience a safe and valuable one.

The starting point in my work is you. Everyone comes with their own unique dilemmas, conflicts, anxieties and traumas; their own unique way of dealing with them and their own unique way of seeing the world.

We would work together to explore current problems. Part of this work might entail identifying whether they have any connection with past experiences and events.  This can enable you to work towards a more meaningful and fulfilling way of life.

I offer short term counselling and open-ended, long term psychotherapy. I currently work face-to-face and online.

How do I get started?

You can take the next step by contacting me via e-mail, telephone or the contact form on my website. If I do not pick up the phone I am more than likely with a client so leave a message with your details. Whatever your method of contact, I usually am able to get back to you fairly promptly but on occasions it could be up to 24hrs.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am qualified as a Psychotherapist with a Masters in Psychotherapy and Counselling, a recognised UKCP (United Kingdom Counsel for Psychotherapy) accredited qualification.

Over twenty years ago I gained a B.A. in Social Science which led to many years working in a community setting and to my membership of the British Psychological Society, the professional body for clinical psychologists.

For the last 5 years I have been working for Cruse, a local NHS funded bereavement support service. I currently work with clients and also in a supervisory capacity to a group of other bereavement supporters. Both roles are certificated by Cruse and Ascentis.

As required by the BACP I also continue my professional development by taking a variety of courses including, trauma, the inner critic, anxiety, working online during a pandemic; and more.

I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and abide by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
