About me

Hello, I'm Amanda.

I'm aware how daunting this 'search for a therapist' process can be but whatever has brought you here, whether you're searching for yourself or for someone else, this first step is a step in the right direction.

However worried or anxious you may be feeling, it may help to realise that it's incredibly rare for anyone to go through life without 'hitting a wall' of some sort or another.

Since qualifying in 2009, I've had the privilege of working with many clients who have come to seek help in navigating their way through some of the most overwhelming episodes that life can throw at us:

  • Anxiety, panic attacks.
  • PTSD - the impact of trauma, recent or historic.
  • Loss and bereavement.
  • Unresolved historic abuse/events that resurface unexpectedly.
  • Relationships that have become challenging, be they personal or professional.
  • Inability to function in your normal, everyday, routine.
  • The unforeseen impact of someone else's words or actions.

Psychotherapy is a collaborative process and sometimes clarity, new perspective and a way forward reveal themselves after just a few sessions. Sometimes it takes longer and requires a more enduring commitment. Either way, the establishment of a sound and trusting partnership between us would be at the heart of a successful outcome for you.

If you’d like to visit me for a free initial 50 minute consultation, I'd be happy to meet with you. Just email me I’ll respond as soon as I can to arrange a suitable time for us to meet. We would use this time to discuss any concerns and issues that you feel you want to raise; also to give you the opportunity to focus on what you’d most like to gain from your therapy.

Little Wenham is just five minutes from the A12, a fairly equal distance between Colchester and Ipswich. My consulting room is a warm, welcoming space in a tranquil setting where you will have the option of working indoors or outdoors, walking-and-talking if you prefer, weather allowing.

I look forward to hearing from you, if you’re ready to take your next step.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified as a therapist in 2009, at the Colchester Institute, in the Person-Centred model developed by Carl Rogers. Further studies have allowed me to engage more broadly with other models, where appropriate, but my work is rooted in Rogerian theory. This has allowed me to help clients presenting with a broad range of issues: anxiety, failing relationships, eating disorders, historic child abuse, PTSD, panic attacks and unresolved trauma.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I trained in New York last year, to engage in a compelling psychosensory therapy which seeks to dispel, with unusual speed, the effects of anxiety, phobias, chronic somatic pain, panic-disorder, PTSD and trauma.

Alongside my core person-centred approach, I continue to pursue my ongoing professional development of this innovative technique, when considered to be helpful and appropriate by both my clients and myself.

The doctors and therapists that I trained with work almost exclusively in this method; my tutor in New York was a first-responder at 9/11 and has continued to work with the NYPD. She now uses only this psychosensory method in her specific work to alleviate the effects of PTSD and trauma in their workforce.
