About me
I am a fully qualified, accredited CBT counsellor and have worked in a number of local mental health services over many years, successfully treating people of all ages with a broad range of mental health difficulties.
These include: anxiety, OCD, panic, social anxiety, depression, low mood, poor self-esteem, and trauma related challenges. I am an accredited member of the British Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Psychotherapy (BABCP).
As a CBT therapist, I believe that everyone wants to be happy and fulfilled but that we are often held back by the belief that we are not good enough in some way, even when objective evidence - and the reassurances of others - tell us the opposite is true.
What is CBT?
CBT is a relatively short-term, collaborative therapy - usually 6-12 sessions - that aims to give you the skills and techniques to become your own therapist so that you can move forward in your life feeling more confident and resourced.
What to Expect
In our sessions, I will help you to gain a deeper understanding of your current problems and how they might be linked to your beliefs about yourself, about others and your future. This may involve considering the impact of painful things that have happened to you in the past.
Once I have a very clear understanding of your particular difficulties, and your goals for therapy, we might agree that it would be beneficial to help you to view your undermining thoughts and beliefs from fresh perspectives, and to realise, through experience, that you have more power than you think to choose which thoughts you wish to be guided by and which ones you want to let go of.
And/or we might look together at the ways in which you currently cope with your problems, and to consider if your "safety behaviours" have unintended consequences that might be holding you back.
If you have a harsh inner critic, we might decide that it would be helpful to practise responding to your painful feelings with more kindness and sympathy.
Most importantly, I will do everything I can to help you feel safe and understood in our sessions, and everything we do together we will have agreed beforehand. I will also regularly ask for feedback about your experience.

Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The BABCP is the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the UK. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the practice, theory or development of CBT. BABCP also provides accreditation for CBT therapists. BABCP accredited members adhere to the Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics in the Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, and are willing to be scrutinised in this adherence as required.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
