About me

Hi, I’m Addam. Whatever your reasons for seeking out counselling, I am here to listen, aim to understand and to work collaboratively with you to create a space where you can process and explore what you need to at your own pace.

I am an integrative, relational, and trauma-informed counsellor, which means that I work in a range of ways to meet the needs of my clients, incorporating aspects of different therapeutic approaches in response to each person's preference.

I consider myself affirming of all areas of gender, sexual and relationship diversity (GSRD), sex- and kink-positive, and supportive of those who are exploring these aspects.

I believe strongly in social justice and equality and am committed to anti-oppressive counselling practice. As well as my own lived experience of being from a mixed heritage background, I also work part-time providing therapy for refugees, asylum seekers, and other clients from ethnically minoritised backgrounds.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Masters in counselling and psychotherapy based on person-centred, psychodynamic and Gestalt approaches. I integrate these, along with elements and awareness of anti-oppressive approaches to adapt to each person's experience, working with you to develop the support that you need.

Working relationally means I see the counselling alliance between therapist and client as equal and balanced, and one where we are both communicating, building trust and learning from each other; and a trauma-informed approach helps in both developing my understanding of your trauma and in working collaboratively with you to build reflection and awareness and develop tools to help support you. Having the environment to process trauma without retraumatising can help you to reconstruct, and to heal the damage that trauma causes.

I have experience of working with a wide range of issues, with particular focuses on anxiety, identity, racialised trauma, migrant trauma, self-esteem, shame and suicidal ideation, and a wide range of issues connected to gender, sexuality and relationship diversity. Whilst these may or may not be the focus of our work together, the space is there for these aspects if you need it.
