Cheryl Scammells is a qualified integrative counsellor who has worked professionally for many years as a counsellor, supervisor and trainer. She was employed in the alcohol and drug field for nearly 30 years and for 20 years in the provision of an employee counselling service. Throughout these years, she has had the privilege of working with very many people on a wide variety of issues that were causing them stress, distress, anguish, anger, confusion or anxiety. Cheryl integrates and combines parts of several therapeutic approaches, with a strong foundation of Motivational Interviewing. Motivational Interviewing itself is an integrative approach – a humanistic, evidence-based therapy that helps people understand, challenge and change problematic behaviours. Elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy can be very helpful in identifying, understanding and modifying entrenched patterns of unhelpful thinking, whilst Existential Therapy focuses on exploring the challenges and paradoxes of human existence and the search for meaning and purpose.
Lucy Emlyn-Jones is a qualified integrative counsellor who has been working in the alcohol and drug field for 25 years. She also has over 10 years' experience within a generic employee counselling service. She has been highly fortunate to have a career in which she has been able to work with a very wide range of people around issues such as alcohol and drug concerns, anxiety and depression, bereavement, low self-esteem, childhood abuse and post-traumatic stress. Her work is rooted in a humanistic, person-centred philosophy and integrates a range of approaches such as solution-focussed, existential and cognitive behavioural therapy. This allows her to respond flexibly to her client’s particular situation and needs. Her counselling approach is greatly informed by the values and skills of Motivational Interviewing (MI), a strengths-based, respectful approach aimed at helping people make positive changes in their lives. Lucy has been a trainer in MI for over 20 years.
Rhys John is a qualified person-centred counsellor with experience in a number of different agency settings including working with an alcohol and drug counselling service, MIND the mental health charity and a Cancer Aid charity working with cancer sufferers and their families. Rhys can work with a number of issues including substance misuse, depression and anxiety, diagnosis of serious illness, relationship problems and problems arising from self esteem and self image. In his practice Rhys aims build a good therapeutic relationship with his clients and provide a warm environment where people feel safe to explore the issues that are causing them problems.
