About me

You might be feeling a bit nervous or anxious about starting counselling and reaching out to someone you've never met. In my experience, this is really common and something that most people feel before starting counselling.

It also takes real courage to ask for support and I'm pleased that you've already taken steps towards this.

Here's a little summary that I hope gives you a sense of me and what you could expect from our work together.

My name is Yasin and I'm a qualified, BACP registered counsellor. I provide online counselling for adults living in the UK. I can offer you a safe, confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences and to hear you, without judgement.

I first received counselling as a young person in school. I then returned to counselling later on in life when I was struggling with my mental health and was able to get so much from it. This is why I felt so drawn to becoming a counsellor myself.

Whether it's about making certain changes in your life, understanding the root of your struggles or just wanting to be listened to, counselling can be a really helpful way of getting the support and clarity you might need.

In my experience, people who feel listened to, understood, and allowed to be themselves can find relief from their distress, witness personal growth and make real positive changes in their lives.

My core approaches are person-centred counselling and psychodynamic counselling.

Person-centred counselling follows your lead and empowers you to choose what we discuss and the pace we work within. I can help to facilitate the discussion with compassion and listen to you without judgment or interruption. We'll be able explore what's been causing you distress, or perhaps pain and explore what might help you find relief or cope better.

Psychodynamic counselling explores how the difficulty you're experiencing now might be heavily led by your your early-life experiences. Much of this might be outside of your current awareness (unconscious) and our time together may involve gently bringing these influences into your actual awareness. My belief is that this can help you to make better sense of what you’re feeling, why you might be feeling the way you do and what changes you might want to make.

Here's some examples of what this might look like in practise:

  • Exploring your early years and how what you experienced might be impacting on you in the here and now.
  • Using our relationship as a safe base for exploring your relationships with others.

By becoming more aware, I've often found that people can find that they begin to think, feel and behave in ways that feel more true to themselves.

I offer a free initial 15 minute telephone consultation. This is just a chance for us to meet each other before you make any decisions about us working together and also to briefly discuss what's brought you to seeking support.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
