About me
I have worked as a counsellor and as a psychotherapist since 2001. I work with problems including depression, anxiety and low self-esteem and have a special interest in Autism and Aspergers. I work in private practice and as a counsellor at Understanding Autism North West.
I am particularly keen to provide a safe space in which my clients can explore long held feelings of being ‘different’, of being tolerated but not fully accepted, of feeling dissatisfied, disappointed and exhausted by the effort required in trying to continuously please others. It is usually a relief to realise you are not alone in feeling like this and that it is possible to find your preferred way of being in the world and to decide to stop feeling the need to justify being your authentic self.
Unfortunately, it is often the case that autistic adults have had a poor experience of counselling and psychotherapy where the professional has not had sufficient understanding of the ways in which the world looks so very different to their autistic client. I have a particular interest in supporting adults who find they are struggling to come to terms with what it means to be autistic and the support I offer is very different to that which my clients tell me they have experienced elsewhere.
I understand the anxiety people have in acknowledging they may need the help of a professional and in making that initial contact, but I have many years of experience and promise there is no need to feel this way.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

My specialist interest in autism is supported through my ongoing study and research at the Autism Centre at Sheffield Hallam University and through continuous, ongoing training in Integrative Psychotherapy and its application with autism spectrum.
