About me

Hi, I’m Susie.

Do you feel that your needs aren’t being acknowledged, let alone met; that no one really listens to you? Perhaps you feel worthless, anxious and have low self-esteem?

Or are you facing a life changing event and need the strength to move through it?

Are you ending up in the same type of relationships that lead to heartache and pain?

Have you experienced a traumatic event that has affected your ability to connect with others?

What can I offer you?

I am a fully qualified integrative counsellor working with adults.

I work in a client-centric way, believing that you are the expert in yourself. I encourage collaborative exploration and offer gentle observations to aid the therapeutic process.

I am an advocate of the therapeutic relationship being at the heart of a successful counselling experience, where acceptance and compassion is encouraged and given.

I offer a calm, safe, relaxed, non-judgmental and empathetic space for honest dialogue.

Every client is unique and I tailor my counselling to suit your individual need. I also believe in being authentic and that having a sense of humour can, at times, relieve the intensity of sessions, where appropriate.

How I work

As an integrated counsellor, I work largely (but not exclusively) using personal centred and psychodynamic theoretical approaches to explore your thoughts and feelings, to understand why you feel the way you do.

The latter approach can include focusing on past events; by processing these events together, you can achieve a greater self-awareness. Patterns of behaviour that once worked for you, may not be serving you now. We can look at these patterns, and discuss potentially different options going forwards.

I currently work with clients suffering with:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • PTSD
  • Trauma
  • Low self-esteem
  • Relationship issues
  • Domestic/sexual abuse
  • Emotional/narcissistic abuse

I have a background in working in education and business with young people and adults. Alongside my private practice, I also work for a charity offering counselling to those suffering from the impacts of recent or historic sexual abuse. Working with a diversity of individuals, from many different backgrounds has enriched my counselling experience and my outlook on life.

First contact

I appreciate how hard it is to reach out for help, especially to a stranger! I will work with you to make this first contact as easy as possible. After you contact me, I will offer a free, no obligation phone call to discuss your counselling needs and whether I would be a good fit for you.

If we are both happy to proceed, we can arrange our first session.

You are welcome to have as many sessions as you wish.

I work in confidential rooms in Reading, Henley-on-Thames and Wallingford.

In addition, I offer online, telephone and walking (outdoor) therapy.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
