About me

I'm a qualified counsellor based in Barkston Ash, near Tadcaster.

Whatever your reason for seeking support, I offer you a compassionate space to work through your feelings at your own pace and without judgement. Together we can look at the difficulties you are facing and from a safe therapeutic relationship begin to untangle feelings which can sometimes be overwhelming when trying to cope with them on your own. Anxiety, low self confidence, bereavement, family issues, it may be one event you are struggling with, or a build up of feelings over a long time.

Sometimes our friends  and family can support us, but it can also be hard to open up to those closest to us. In these times the support of a professional can be helpful. For some people, counselling is the first time they experience someone truly listening to them

I offer a flexible approach to counselling drawing upon different ways of working, to suit your unique needs. I am trained in a trauma informed way, I understand the ways trauma can impact a person and offer ways to help reduce the  symptoms. I focus on emotional safety and empowerment, you decide what we talk about.

The counselling process is different for everyone and I am qualified to work on a wide range of issues. I offer to work with you either short term or long term. Besides private practice, I offer counselling at a local sixth from/university centre and have gained lots of experience working with teenagers and young adults. I welcome enquiries from people over 14 yrs old.

To give you a sense of what it is like to work with me I offer a free introductory telephone consultation.  I welcome you to get in touch via email to book, or visit my website linked above for more information.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
