About me

I am a qualified counsellor and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and I abide by its code of ethics.

I have a private practice in Sevenoaks which offers face-to-face, online and telephone counselling.  I also work at a local hospice in Kent providing counselling for the bereaved and for people suffering from life-limiting illnesses.

The kind of difficulties I can help with include (but are not limited to): anxiety, depression, sadness, men's issues, bereavement and loss, grief, lack of confidence and low self-esteem, relationship issues, family and work issues, and existential worries about meaning and purpose in life.

I offer individual counselling to adults of all ages, in both short and long term therapy.

I undertake monthly supervision (in which my work with clients is overseen) and keep up to date with developments in the counselling world (continued professional development).  Both of these ensure my practice is professional, ethical and relevant.

How we can work together

My counselling model and way of working is called “Integrative Counselling” which means that I use a number of different counselling theories and techniques, utilising the ones that you and I think will be most suitable and helpful for you.  Most importantly, I provide an empathic, non-judgmental space where you are respected and made comfortable as we explore your world.

In counselling sessions, you will have the space and time to try and make sense of yourself and your relationships.  Over time, it can help you to make changes to your behaviours, thoughts and feelings.

Our sessions will be completely confidential and non-judgmental.  Counselling will encourage feelings of trust enabling you to talk about your innermost thoughts, feelings and beliefs without being blamed or shamed.

Counselling helps challenge the thoughts which impact on your wellbeing, and can help you move forward and made different and new life choices.

Short term counselling usually focuses on helping solve a current issue or problem which is concerning you.  Long term counselling usually focuses on issues, concerns or ways of being which you see recurring in your life which may be deeper rooted in your past.

The decision to have long or short term counselling is something we will agree about at the initial consultation session, but which can change through discussion as counselling sessions continue.

“I learned that courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it”

Nelson Mandella

Initial consultation

I offer a free of charge initial consultation (online or by telephone), lasting up to 20 minutes to discuss what you may need and what I can offer.

Ongoing sessions

After the initial consultation, if we agree to work together, ongoing sessions are for 50 minutes and cost £50. I offer a range of counselling options including, in person in my counselling rooms in Sevenoaks, or via Zoom or telephone. Where necessary, it can be a combination of these ways of working, whatever is most convenient for you. The duration of therapy is mutually decided and can be short or long term.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
