About me
Please be reassured that you don't have to know what is wrong before getting in touch. My role is to provide a space where we can make sense of what is going on.
I’m Sam, a qualified counsellor based in Newton Abbot and registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I have been delivering therapeutic interventions since 2017 and currently work in the NHS focusing on systemic change, increasing access to high quality mental health support.
I have helped adults, children and young people with a range of specific issues, including anxiety, depression and low self-esteem. However, many of the difficulties I have supported are less clearly defined, and is often distress associated with how confusing, cruel and relentless life can feel.
How do I work?
My priority is providing you with therapy that is effective. The focus of my work is driven by the overarching message from research, that the most important element of good therapy is a strong and secure relationship between us.
What you discuss with me will remain strictly confidential. I understand the power of speaking aloud those thoughts and emotions that may feel overwhelming or taboo, and I respect the trust you place in me.
What next?
To help you decide if we're the right fit, I offer a complimentary 30-minute consultation. This can be in person, via a video call or over the phone; whichever is most convenient for you.
More than anything, this will allow you to see how it feels to speak with me. It's essential to find a therapist with whom you feel comfortable and understood, so I encourage you to take your time in making this decision.
Getting in touch…
I really enjoy speaking about how I work, and invite you to reach out to me via email or phone. Even If I'm unable to take your call, please leave a voicemail or send a text with your contact information, and I'll get back to you within 24 hours.
What happens then?
During our initial sessions, we'll work together to identify the issues that are troubling you and explore ways forward. I will be striving to provide a space where you won’t be rushed, judged and where I will be listening carefully to establish a deep understanding of how things are for you.
How long will it take?
Everyone has a unique set of difficulties. However, my approach is guided by two key principles:
- You set the pace.
- Effective therapy should take no longer than necessary.
I see therapy as a bridge, helping you move from your current distress to a place where life feels more aligned with your hopes and values.
Where are you based?
I am based at Seale Hayne, just a short drive from Newton Abbot. There is ample parking, a café and restroom facilities. My office is situated in a quiet space on the second floor.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
