About me

We all have times in our lives when we're struggling with difficult feelings. Perhaps an unexpected event has happened in your life that's led you to feel overwhelmed and unable to cope. Or, a longer-term issue that was bearable now makes you feel stuck or lost. You could simply have the niggling sense that you're "not quite yourself" and would like to find out why that might be in order to make a change. We always hope that talking to friends and family about our feelings will help, and thankfully, sometimes it does. But if you feel that's not quite enough or that's not possible, then you may wish to consider counselling.

How I work

I listen with warmth and care and without judgement. I offer a welcoming space to talk in confidence about what is troubling you. It's not always easy to process what's going on inside, and feelings such as anger, loneliness, sadness, anxiety or shame are challenging to be with. Because of this, I aim to build a trusting therapeutic relationship with clients, so that you feel safe and supported as we explore what it is that's bought you to therapy. Our work together can help you manage your feelings better as you find a way forward that feels meaningful, with greater self-understanding and fulfilment.

I work with clients in the short-term (6-20 sessions) or for a longer period of time, dependant on your needs.

What to expect

After speaking briefly on the phone, we can schedule an initial assessment. The aim of this first session is for us to get a sense of each other and for you to see whether you'd like to work with me as your counsellor. I'll have the chance to understand more about what's going on for you at the moment, to consider how I can help and you'll have the opportunity to ask any questions. If we agree to continue together, counselling sessions are at the same time, same place, each week for 50 minutes.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor, registered with both the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (MNCPS Accred). I hold a Post-Graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling from the Minster Centre, a leading counselling and psychotherapy training institute (validated by Middlesex University).

I am qualified in a range of therapeutic approaches and work in a way that is guided by my clients' experiences and needs. My training has included psychodynamic, person-centred, humanistic and relational approaches.

In addition to private practice, I have worked as a counsellor for two branches of Mind, a hospital bereavement service, a low-cost therapy service and a women’s healthcare charity. Over the years, I have supported clients with anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and through times of loss and major life changes, including navigating the impact of new parenthood.

I am passionate about making mental health stigma a thing of the past, and was once a befriender for Samaritans.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

Reaching out for help is always the first step, and I know considering therapy can be daunting. You can start by sending me an email or we can speak on the phone, to talk a little about what's bringing you to counselling. Then if you'd like to have a first session, we can discuss how we might work together and how counselling may benefit you.

My fee is £70 per session. I have a limited number of slots at the concessionary rate of £55 for keyworkers, students or for clients on lower incomes.
