About me

Hi, I’m Richard & I’m a therapist based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

I originally qualified in 2007 and have continued to work under my core beliefs of the person-centred model, helping people to explore challenges they may be experiencing and working together with clients at their own pace to help find a way forward. I am also a trained EMDR practitioner, which provides me with additional skills to help those affected by ongoing symptoms of trauma.

My career has provided opportunities to work within many different settings, including managing a busy NHS service, working in prisons/courts helping offenders rehabilitate into the community, working with many voluntary sector providers and also significant experience in major multi-national corporate organisations. In addition I’ve also maintained my private practice work.

Inherently my central focus is that we are all equal and I offer a space and time that is welcoming, judgement-free, professional and safe, to work with the many different and diverse reasons why people may choose to talk with a therapist.

We all experience many different life experiences, some of which may be expected/foreseen but sometimes events and emotions take us by surprise and we may need that extra support, no matter who we are or what our circumstances, to work through things.

For an initial conversation to talk about how we may be able to work together then please don't hesitate to call, or find out more about me, my services and my experience at https://www.rbtherapy.co.uk

I look forward to us working together or in the least, with my extensive knowledge and connections, assisting you to connect with the right people who may be able to help with your individual situation.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
