About me

There are times when life can feel a struggle, thoughts and feelings become overwhelming, or 'you're not yourself' at the moment. This can lead to stress, anxiety and/or depression, or an inability to cope, which can start to effect your management of day to day life and relationships with others. This may be for an isolated incident such as a bereavement or long term thoughts/feelings/experiences or anything in-between. Having someone, listen, hear and understand has been shown to help. Clients have fed back how my support has helped them have a deeper understanding of themselves and make positive changes to their lives.

I am an Integrative Counsellor with experience of supporting clients with many different encounters and difficulties, including depression, anxiety, bereavement including stillbirth and neonatal loss, trauma, self-harm, health anxiety and low self-esteem.

The relationship between us is at the centre of my work, my understanding and experience has consolidated how I facilitate this in a safe, supporting, and non-judgemental way. Giving you a calm, safe space to talk about whatever has drawn you to seek support, at a pace to suit you. Being an integrative counsellor means I work with a few counselling theories. This allows me to adapt my support in a variety of ways, to meet your needs.

Please contact me and arrange a call to see how I may be able to help you. I provide a free, initial 30 minutes telephone call.

I am a member of the BACP and follow its ethical framework.

In addition to my private work, I volunteer for CRUSE, the bereavement charity.

Training, qualifications & experience

My main focus is Gestalt, a holistic approach, looking at how your past influences the present. This can raise awareness of the underlying cause of your automatic responses and feelings, allowing a deeper insight and an ability to think and respond differently. Therapy provides immediate support and the possibility of long-lasting change through a greater understanding of yourself.

In addition to ongoing Continual Professional Development, I have:

Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling - CPCAB

Online and Telephone Counselling Course - Counselling Tutor

I volunteer for CRUSE the Bereavement Charity

I have a background in nursing, initially working with adults. I then specialised in Neonatal Care for many years. I have supported many parents through their 'neonatal journey', with all the ups and downs that parents and families experience in this difficult time.

I offer a free initial 30 minutes session, so that we can see if we think we would be a good fit.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

In person sessions are held at Kingsclere Village Club, RG20 5NH. Working online or by telephone allows you the ability to access counselling without travelling. You need to be able to have somewhere private, where you can't be overheard.
