About me

Have you lost your spark?

Perhaps you feel a need to make changes in your life but are unsure where or how to start?

Are you struggling with difficult feelings such as feeling sad, feeling stressed, feeling anxious or have regrets about the choices you have made in life?

Are you grieving the loss of a friend or family member or the grief of involuntary childlessness?

Is a lack of confidence or self-worth hindering your progress in creative projects or decision-making?

Maybe you are struggling with anxiety, a persistent low mood or depression.

Are you considering a period of therapy to look at how you got to where you currently are, and how you want to move forward in your life?

Therapy can offer you the space to work through difficult feelings, to process thoughts and feelings about a specific event, or to spend a longer period of time getting to know yourself better and understand where patterns of thought and behaviour might come from, and how you can begin to shape these to derive more satisfaction and enjoyment from life.

My name is Rachel Musson and I am a qualified registered counsellor working online and in-person in Gloucestershire, UK. I have worked with clients of all ages and backgrounds, and I am committed to an inclusive and anti-oppressive practice. That said, I understand that as a client you may want to know a little about the experience I bring to the therapeutic space. As well as private practice, I currently work for an NHS staff counselling service and have previously offered therapy in placements such as an alcohol and drug rehabilitation service and arts-based higher education institutes. I do have a special interest in working with people in the creative industries and with women and men facing the challenges of being either childless and childfree and my previous experience in education means I have particular insight into the challenges of parents who are raising children with special educational needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

My fees are dependent on location and time. Please contact me for more information.

I offer a free initial Zoom session of around 20-30 minutes.

When I work

I have availability in Cheltenham on Wednesdays and in Dursley on Thursdays.

I have online availability Monday-Thursday.

Further information

I suggest we first speak on the phone or online for an initial conversation for which there is no charge. If we decide to work together after our initial conversation, I would then suggest either a short-term period of work (6-12 sessions), or a few more sessions before settling into longer-term more open-ended therapy. If either of us feel we are not a good match, or if I feel that I am not the right therapist for you, I may be able to suggest another therapist you could contact. My fee is £50 per each 50 minute session. Sessions usually take place weekly.
