About me

Are you LGBTQ+ and confused, anxious or misunderstood in your relationships? Are you feeling tired and frustrated not knowing what to do in a work or friendship situation? Do you feel guilty asking for what you need? Is shame debilitating you, leaving you wondering if you are missing out or getting left behind?

Working with me can help you find your inner voice, encourage assertiveness, start healing your pain and increase your confidence, which means that you are less fearful, enabling you to drop the struggle with shame and start accepting life as it is without judgement. You will start to feel contentment & freedom.. Freedom to be who you are, without any apologies and break free from the suffocation of old behaviours empowering you to decide who and how you want to be in the world.

I have worked with a diverse range of people as a nurse for 25 years and in my training as a therapist and as a volunteer with Mindout LGBTQ+ mental health charity. This enables me to meet my clients where they are, bring compassion and endeavour to treat every individual with the kindness I needed during my most challenging times.

Counselling can be useful at all stages of life, whether you are recovering from a particular crisis or have uncomfortable feelings you want to work through. Sometimes we have a problem but are unable to find the answers on our own. Counselling can help you discover solutions, untangle emotions, and find peace with situations beyond your control.

I offer a free, half an hour, no obligation, telephone or zoom consultation to discuss your situation and needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

WHAT IS MY COUNSELLING PROCESS?

There are several routes we can take, but follow largely the same steps:

Book initial consultation
If we decide that we’re a good fit, we book in the first session
During the first session we discuss: what we are trying to achieve (so that our sessions are purposeful) and we agree what our responsibilities are as both counsellor and client
We regularly assess progress together to make sure we remain on track
We might decide to extend counselling if additional issues arise, or we might even get to where you want to be faster than expected.
After counselling you will have gained valuable insights into yourself and have the tools you need to manage challenges going forward

Type of session

In person
Online
Home visits

Types of client

Adults (25-64)
Older Adults (65+)
