About us

Who are we

We are a local counselling charity established in 1989 offering a low cost counselling service to members of the community who are both self-referring individuals and referred through GP practices. We do not however currently offer counselling to couples.

With fees for private counselling being in the region of £35.00 - £70.00 per hour, we are very proud of the fact that we are still able to offer a high quality low cost counselling service with our sessions costing between £6.00 - £15.00 to be agreed at initial assessment interview. We have in excess of 20 counsellors and consequently our waiting list is short.  As a result of this persons seeking our service can usually be allocated a counsellor within a very short time after initial interview

Our aim

To provide low cost short-term or open-ended counselling for anyone who needs help with issues such as: feelings of loneliness or isolation, stress, depression, anxiety, bereavement, loss, divorce, relationship difficulties, childhood trauma, confusion, forgetfulness, low self-esteem, sexuality, whatever the concern.

Our counselling

Our counsellors are either fully qualified professional counsellors counsellors who are in their last year of training on placement about preparing to enter the profession. They receive regular supervision in accordance with BACP guidelines and are accountable to the organisation for the quality of their work with their clients.

To arrange an appointment, please phone 020 8524 9711 or 07547 893700 (24 hour voicemail checked daily on both numbers). You can also text on the mobile number and we will call you back.

Confidentiality

Counselling is a confidential service.  Information will not be passed to anyone without your consent. The rare exception to this is where we feel you may be a danger to yourself or to others.  Your counsellor will also discuss this with you first.

Equality

We actively oppose oppression and discrimination against people because of their sex, race,  nationality, ethnicity, disabilities, sexual orientation, age, religious beliefs, class, status, HIV status or those who have been in contact with mental health services.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.
