About me

Hi, I'm Neil and I am a qualified counsellor who works online only. If you are looking for support but would prefer not to travel to an office, I can provide a confidential online service that you can access from the comfort of your own space.

Having accessed counselling in the past myself, I understand the anxiety that can come with approaching a counsellor. It is my goal to be open and straight forward to help make that process a bit easier.

I am trained in an integrative Cognitive Behavioural Approach. This gives us tools to use in your therapy in the treatment of problems such as depression and anxiety (please see the list below). I believe that the relationship between the counsellor and client is the most important part of the change that happens through counselling. It is important to me to be genuine with clients and have been told my approach is calming with appropriate challenges.

I offer online counselling using the platform Augmentive. Payment, booking, messaging and video calling is all done on the platform. This makes everything easier to access and manage. There is no cost for you to use the platform and you only pay for your session. You can view my profile here by clicking on visit website or by copy and pasting this link -  https://augmentive.io/professionals/neil-cochrane?from=dropdown&query=neil

If you are interested in online counselling using this approach, please feel free to contact me by telephone or email and we can arrange a free introduction session. This may help you decide if I am the right counsellor for you and if so we can hopefully begin to work on what brings you to counselling.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
